When I taught in California, one of my students was named (first name) Gordon Shumway. He was named after his grandfather, who the Alf character was named after. If I recall correctly, the real Gordon Shumway was a friend with one of the creators. I took this story as the truth at the time because this student was not prone to joke nor did he think it was at all funny that he shared the character's name. Jan 25 09, 5:17 PM
