    Which was the last country in the Americas to abolish slavery (in the plain, literal sense) and when?

    I have found a couple of sites that all say totally different things (which, of course, doesn't help at all), but it is either Nicaragua, Honduras, or Guatemala.

    My personal opinion would be Honduras.

    Brazil, in 1888. Princess Regent Isabel issued the so-called Golden Law, making slavery illegal.
