Why was a sculpture of a hat and rosette erected this year in a very small festival town famous for its boggy pursuits? What other event in the town is the sculpture associated with?

Llanwrtyd Wells? Are you talking about some dude called Lord Sutch? What a looney.

The top hat and rosette sculpture stands on a wall outside the Neuadd Arms Hotel, the starting point for the annual Man versus Horse race which this year celebrated its 25th anniversary. Apparently the Screaming Lord always started the race. He played his last concert there as well just before he died.

A monster raving yay there Peasy! Llanwrtyd claims to be the country's smallest town and hosts an annual World Bog-snorkelling Championships. Screaming Lord Sutch became Britain's longest serving leader of a political party from 1983 until his strange suicide involving a multi-coloured skipping rope in 1999.
His party goes on under his successor, Alan Howling Lord Hope. His policies include solving the fuel crisis and helping Britain's beleaguered farmers by developing a VW that runs on farm effluent.
