Some land in what is now Uganda and Tanzania. The offer was accepted in the 6th Zionist Congress in 1904, but Theodore Herzl died the following year, and there were many who did not want to settle for Uganda. Besides, by then there were two waves of immigration in Turkish Palestine.
[Dec 01 04 7:48 AM] Arpeggionist writes:
If Herzl had gotten his way, Israel would be a Communist state in the middle of Africa, and the national language would be German. Thank goodness things turned out differently.
