    Who was Tokyo Rose?

    Question #53074. Asked by Buck540. (Dec 13 04 12:21 AM)

During World War II, American soldiers dubbed the female broadcasters on Japanese radio, "Tokyo Rose". It was a name invented by the soldiers.

U.S. government research never found evidence of a person named Tokyo Rose in radio programs anywhere in the Pacific.

One woman, however, did go to trial under the name "Tokyo Rose". her real name was Iva Toguri.

    Who was "Tokyo Rose?"

I am going to give you two nouns. The first word I give you is "Illyria". Illyria is a place of minsinterpreted love and occasional comedy. The next word I give you is "rose". A rose is often depicted as beautiful and becoming, though the thorns they bear are sharp and harmful. And, of course, no matter what you call a rose, it will still smell the same. The bond between these two nouns is that William Shakespeare chose to write about it. Can you tell me one play that features Illyria, a made up place, and another that has a short line of how a rose is sweet, no matter what the name?
