What happened to all the Confederate money once the South lost the Civil War?

    Question #53138. Asked by trident87. (Dec 14 04 9:15 PM)

Hard to say about all of it, but much was saved in anticipation of the phrase 'The South will rise again!' There's still quite a bit of it around in museums and private collections, but the North destroyed massive amounts as they came across it.

    [Dec 15 04 10:04 AM] robboy writes:

The currency was worthless, as the Confederacy was totally bankrupt. Some 800 million in Confederate currency was printed during the war, and massive inflation resulted from the south's attempts to stay the course of victory. This is one of the reasons for the generosity of the terms of surrender at Appomatox, which included free and unobstructed passage home, retention of personal firearms, horses, etc. Things later changed, but that's another chapter in the story.

You can be a good student of history and not support what you are learning about.
