Scientists at the University of Adelaide have isolated a sex pheromone in a native Australian frog; they hope that a similar pheromone will be found in Cane Toads and that it could be used to disrupt their breeding cycle.

I have found several sites that support the research into this method - however here is another possiblity:
The objective of the current project is to find exotic, infectious microbial agents which may spread throughout cane toad populations in Australia and which may compromise the host by causing disease and deaths, or by more subtle effects, for example by reducing immune function and the capability to resist other infections, or by reducing reproductive capacity. The project is assessing effects of exotic agents on adult, metamorph and juvenile life stages of the toad, as it is likely that different life stages have differing susceptibilities.

Don't talk about feeding cane toads to ANY dog. I regularly patrol the perimeter with my spray bottle of diluted dettol for fear that my terriers will mouth one, so doing, kill themselves. Rosie is 10 and when she was a puppy she did just that - I hosed out her mouth then spent the night checking her heart rate. She might have learnt her lesson. The preferred method of disposing of these utterly horrible creatures is put them in a plastic bag and let them expire painlessly in the freezer. I would be too frightened of thawing them out for dinner! Like the cockroach they are real survivors - spray not being handy I flattened one with a shovel, went out the next day to dispose of the body - GONE! Trouble is now they are in Kakadu in the Northern Territory and even as far south as Northern New South Wales. Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island and ecologically pristine also has them. There was a picture in the paper of a carpet python expired with a cane toad in its mouth. Once you get me started on cane toads, I can't stop.
