European regulations on food mean which Italian Christmas dish now usually tastes different from its traditional form?

Question #53249. Asked by gmackematix. (Dec 18 04 11:36 PM)

Not knowing much about EU regulations (and not having the time just now to Google) I will have a stab in the dark and say it must have something to do with goat. Kid being a very traditional Italian Christmas feast would probably taste different these days as I recall there being somewhat of a hoohar about the importing of goats with the skin on....

Then again I could be totally off the mark here, as, like I said it's a stab in the dark.

Yeah, it looks like you're right, Peasy. Goat kids is a very popular chistmas dish in Italy (and is apparently quite easy to prepare), but goat skins (along with the skins of other ovines and bovines) can carry dieases, which means the EU has outlawed the cross-country trading of them.

There are also countires in Asia and the Middle East which have stopped this trading. Meanwhile, have a delicious recipe for Kid with cheese and eggs, a popular dish at Christmas and especially Easter.

There's also something here about the EU ruining the traditional Romanian christmas festivities. Could this maybe apply to the Italian celebrations?
