From which country did New Year's Day originate?

    Question #53283. Asked by ShakeyMikey.

    Arpeggionist

    France.

    [Dec 20 04 12:28 PM] Arpeggionist writes:

It is unknown why the French decided to celebrate the new year in the middle of the winter, on January 1st, rather than in March (around Easter, and around the beginning of spring) or September (which is when the Jews celebrate the new year).
