Producer 'Sir' George Martin, Brian Epstein, Pete Best, Stuart Sutcliffe and others are all named by various reputable sources as 'the fifth Beatle'. In my own opinion it's Pete Best.

Members of the Beatles often referred to Billy Preston as the fifth Beatle, for his work and chemistry with the group.

Wikipedia says, "The Fifth Beatle can refer to one (or more) of several people who were at one point a member of The Beatles, or had a strong association with the "fab four", other than John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, or Ringo Starr," and goes on to list the usual suspects: Stuart Sutcliffe, Pete Best, George Martin, Billy Preston, Brian Epstein, etc., however, for those of us who "grew up" with the Beatles, disc jockey Murray the K is the person we know as "the fifth Beatle."
