    Since the Chrysanthemum throne has not produced a male heir, an amendment is sought to The Constitution to enable a female empress to sit on the throne. Is the United States involved in this amendment to the constitution?

    Since an American woman helped draft the woman's rights section of the constitution, I suppose they're already involved. The woman, Beate Sirota Gordon, says that there is nothing to stop women taking the throne.

    Perhaps an American woman assisted in writting proposals, but definitly there is NO offical US involvement in this sacred Japanese tradition.

    Is the current US government involved in this Japanese debate? Please show me something that says it is, Maggie in your site I could find nothing about a Ms. Gordon.

    You are quite right, Buck. They've changed that page since I posted that information. I'll keep looking. What I understood from what I read there was that she, among others of the US Administration after the war, were instrumental in drafting the Japanese constitution. It didn't mention anything about the current Government as far as I remember.
