    		According to Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedia, it was in Florence, Italy. His real name was Andrea di Michele di Francesco di Cioni (b.1435-d.1488).

    		Andrea del Verrocchio was an influential Italian sculptor, goldsmith, and painter who worked at the court of Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy.

    		Though he is said to have worked in Rome for Pope Sixtus IV among others, there is no documentary trace that he ever left the area around Florence until the early 1480s, when he moved to Venice, where he died within a few years.
