Some say Britain no longer has colonies, just "dependencies" or "overseas territories" but in my 2001 encyclopedia, Bermuda, British Indian Ocean Territory, Falkland Islands (crown colony), Montserrat (crown colony), Pitcairn Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands (crown colony) are referred to as colonies. What is correct?

Crown colonies are now called overseas territories. All of the places that you have mentioned are overseas territories of Britain. They can be loosely referred to as colonies but they are technically considered overseas territories.
