A New York City resident is a New Yorker. There is also some borough identification, and the subways are crowded with proud Manhattanites, Bronxites, Brooklynites, Queensites and [Staten] Islanders. Sometimes people in the surrounding suburbs, many of city origin, are also called New Yorkers, but the term is rarely used to refer to residents of Upstate New York.
