Zelig: Woody Allen has always expressed affection for pre-World War II America; indeed, he seems more at home in that era than his own. With the mockumentary Zelig, he submerges himself in the roaring 1920s, re-creating the jittery newsreel footage, the speakeasy jazz, and the fizzy naivete of the media-drunk masses. Allen stars as Leonard Zelig, who copes with his social insecurities by becoming exactly like whomever he's with at the moment - a Greek waiter, a black musician, Babe Ruth, Adolf Hitler. NOTE: Also appearing in the film's vintage footage are Charles Lindbergh, Al Capone, William Randolph Hearst, Marion Davies, Charlie Chaplin, Josephine Baker, Fanny Brice, Adolf Hitler, Josef Goebbels, Hermann Goering, James Cagney, Jimmy Walker, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Bobby Jones, and Pope Pius XI.
