On a trip to Tennessee in 2003, my family and I stopped on Skyline Drive in Virginia. There was a charge to enter the Drive but to the best of my knowledge no charge for the trail. Fantastic scenery!!!!!

No, there is no fee to hike the Appalachian Trail. Memberships are available to the Appalachian Trail Conference which maintains the trail, and donations are certainly welcome.

I live about 2 miles west of where the Appalachian Trail crosses I-70 on the Frederick County/Washington County line.
