I remember reading once about a cave somewhere that was completely cut off from the rest of the environment. It was a whole ecosystem that didn't depend on the sun. Where is this cave and what is it called?

I think I've got what you're looking for. After extensive searching, it is called Movile Cave, and here are some links.

A cave in rural Romania that was discovered by accident 10 years ago contains life forms that have remained in that environment for 5.5 million years, including a leech that doesn't suck blood.

Back in 1986, an excavation crew in Romania was bulldozing through the soil on the coast of the Black Sea to see if it might be a good spot to build a power plant, when suddenly something cracked, and the Earth gave way, and they realized there was something big and weird and hollow down there.
