Roger Williams disagreed with the Puritan leaders of Massachusetts. He thought they should separate from the Church of England. He also thought church officers shouldn't interfere with civil matters and civil officers should not attempt to enforce church policies. (good idea) He even opposed unfair treatment of Indians. They kicked him out in 1635 and he founded Providence, Rhode Island in the next year.
