"Why Am I Me?" is from the musical "Shenandoah" sung by the characters Boy and Gabriel.
I'm not finding anything about a television program, but it could possibly have been the 1975 Broadway cast, which would have been Joseph Shapiro as Robert "the boy" and Chip Ford as Gabriel. John Cullum starred as Charlie Anderson.
