Manson taught that the song was prophesying the final apocalyptic battle between the black and white races. I understand that helter-skelter is the British term for the playground item Americans call a slippery-slide.

Correct griff, Manson said that after the blacks and whites fought that his "family" would somehow take control with him in command and that he was Christ's Second Coming.
I think Lennon had stated that "Helter Skelter" was the name of one specific playground slide in Liverpool, but Brits please say if I am wrong on this.

Helter skelter is a generic term for a slide coiled round a tower - usually found in fixed fairgrounds rather than travelling ones, and not in playgrounds. There weren't any fixed fairgrounds in Liverpool, and still aren't so far as I am aware.
Helter skelter also means haphazard or carelessly hurried.
