In the last line of which famous book does the author claim that the story "had a point" but has tempoarily forgotten what it was?

    I think that's a Douglas Adams thing.

After consulting my trusty 5-book compilation edition, I've found that yes, it is the last line in 'So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish'. Ah, what a fine author he was.

Based on an idea the U.S. government came up with to solve an international problem, a story has been produced by a living American author celebrated enough that his name is larger than the title on the book cover. It tells about what might have been had the solution been implemented. Franklin Roosevelt had a hand in this possibly generous offer to, well, I'll tell you who if you need a clue. What is the name of the author, the title of his book, and the gist of the story?

Which great piece of literature was created due to a horror story that the author had told around a campfire? Who was this author and what was his or her book called?

Can anyone tell me the author or origin of this piece of writing, "The noblest plan of all mankind is still a dream to chase. The sweetest song is still unsung in some forgotten place, The greatest story ever told is still someone's to tell; And from this pile of shapeless sand will rise a citadel"?
