    What was the first pain relief used during labor and when was it?

    		Ether was used by Dr. Crawford Williamson Long, when his second child Fanny was delivered on December 27, 1845, at Jefferson, Georgia.

    Many sites say is was Sir James Young Simpson in 1847, but Long seems to have the (slight) numerical edge, and he's the one cited in "Famous First Facts".
