How long does it take for bacteria to multiply itself?

Different for each kind of bacteria and the conditions. There is a bacteria that under optimal conditions can grow and divide into two in about twenty minutes. I had a teacher tell me that by tommorrow morning, we could walk to class in three inches of bacteria if they continued to multiply at that rate. Fortunately, they crowd each other out as they compete for food, oxygen, whatever and never do get that out of hand. Feb 17 05, 2:22 PM
