Should paper towels and toilet paper be placed in the dispenser so that the paper is pulled from the top or the bottom of the roll?

    Question #55291. Asked by dejavucub4. (Feb 18 05 2:24 PM)

I imagine they vary quite a bit, but pulling from the bottom is always easier as it doesn't have to overcome the friction of the whole roll, and relies on gravity for a stack of towels. But some use a series of pullies to guide the roll to run smoothly and they also run from the bottom, using gravity as well.

Over the top every time for toilet paper, that will prevent grubby marks or scratches on the wall.

Over the top, so as to save a few trees.

It may have been Ann Landers who claimed TP should roll over the top, so as to properly display any patterns that had been printed on the paper...or so they say.

I heard the same on Oprah when Miss Manners was on, over the top. They even called a few companies but got no response...I guess the companies don't want to go either way and insult any of their customers. So I tried the side mount ...It sucks.....

It just shows there are few things that haven't been discussed somewhere:

If you have small children or pets, it's actually best to have it dispense from the bottom. If they haven't figured the grab and run method, it's not nearly as easy to dispense an entire roll of toilet paper that way. You can bat at it and bat at it all you want and it won't unroll a bit.

It only takes a few wasted rolls of toilet paper to make you throw convention to the wind. (Saves a tree in the end, I guess) Four cats can waste a lot of toilet paper.
