Depends what you mean by 'world record' and if you are referring to living or dead. The Guinness book of Records recognises William and Claudia Ritchie of Kentucky who wed in April 1919. however a Chinese couple from Taiwan, Liu Yung Yang and wife Yang Wan claim to have wed in April 1917. The oldest ever authenticated marriage was between a Welsh couple, Thomas and Elizabeth Morgan, who were married in May 1809 and whose marriage lasted 81 years and 260 days before Elizabeth died in January 1891, ending the marriage. Thomas joined her two years later in January 1893.

There was a very interesting article in the local newspaper about that couple this week. They lived in Risca, just up the road from Newport. Thomas Morgan was 106 when he died, and Elizabeth was 105. They have the official record of Oldest Married Couple (Aggregate Age) in the 2006 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. They had three of their children before the Battle of Waterloo, but had 15 children altogether.
