    What is the origin of the term "get fired" as in: You might get fired if you go to work drunk?

    If a bullet is fired it is propelled rapidly from the gun. I suppose the idea is that a fired person is similarly propelled out of their job.

    Could it stem from the British punishment to Indian mutineers who wouldn`t handle the pig fat wrapped amunitions, ie they were tied to the barrels of cannon and " fired".
