Is it as simple as they were all MPs?
Francis Drake certainly became one in 1580 after returning from rounding the Cape of Good Hope.
Isaac Newton famously made only one speech in his time as MP and that was to ask for the window to be opened.
Samuel Pepys is the one I'm least sure about but as he was, at various times, civil servant, Secretary to the Admiralty and President of the Royal Society, it wouldn't surprise me.
Hilaire Belloc was a Liberal MP from 1906 to 1910.
I suppose you could also say that being an MP was a small part of these four fairly extraordinary lives.
