    Who invented the TV dinner?

Question #55442. Asked by Gadgettt. (Feb 24 05 2:12 AM)

    SOTHC

In 1954, Swanson introduced the first TV dinner. It included portions of turkey, corn bread dressing and gravy, butter peas, and sweet potatoes and sold for 98 cents. The food was packaged on an aluminum tray which could be used to heat and serve the meal according to http://www.wtajtv.com/health/tvdndiet.html

    [Feb 24 05 3:51 AM] SOTHC writes:

To be precise it was Gerald Thomas, a C.A. Swanson & Sons executive who had a big problem on Thanksgiving Day - what to do with 270 tons of left over turkey. As a result, of his problem, the TV dinner was born.

Nothing was wrong. It was funny. I was editing further back and lost track of where I was. At the time this was the first question (or last, depending how you look at it) and I grabbed it by accident and trimmed it up for posterity.

What a superb website congratulations. The interactivity and immediacy is stunning.
    Points:
    1. Why do you trim for posterity is it because no one wants to look fat in this dress or is there limited space (the humour is a bonus)?
    2. I have found an unanswered question and lots of blanks if you tell me about the blanks I'll tell you about the unanswered question.
    3. This question should really be "who marketed the idea of a TV Dinner" because the first person to eat dinner in front of the TV was the inventor (notwithstanding Nipkow's contribution to TV prototypes).
    4. From what I've seen I gather a little bit of chat is OK.

If you've found an unanswered question back in the stacks, it would have had its answer deleted in an unfortunate episode when someone apparently hacked into the site and deleted loads of stuff. A girl was expelled from the site, and Terry (the boss man here!) was talking about further action. I'm not sure whether she was responsible, or just set up by someone she knew. Terry probably knows. These appear here with a comment from McGruff 'Needs an answer'. The trimming is to reduce stuff for storage and reference. When you search for info, you don't usually want the extraneous stuff that goes on. Some of it may be kept; in particular, I would hope that some of SOTHC's comments are archived. By the way, where's the third one of you - the hag?

Please ignore the question - hadn't noticed the 's' between mother and maiden. Obviously you are one person not two of a trio.
