For the Epicurean crowd......
they refer to bull testicles and from all accounts, although not mine, they have an interesting taste. Don't know where the phrase originated.

They probably were named as such because, when prepared and cooked, they look a lot like oysters, and have a similar texture to fried oysters.

Oysters, (Mountain or not) have been considered the food of love. The psychological impact of believing that oysters and raw bull's testicles are aphrodisiacs is sometimes strong enough to produce, at least temporarily, greater sexual desire or performance.
With oysters, probably the classic among the alleged aphrodisiacs, chemical analysis shows that it consists of water, protein and carbohydrates, small amounts of fat, sugar, minerals and zinc. Whatever the case, the truth is that oysters are high in zinc, a necessary mineral used in the production of testosterone.
Our bull's balls, however, supposedly send people dreamy with sexual thoughts and desires with the psychological concept of what they are actually eating...Not tried them myself, don't need to either. ;)

I have tried them and they didn't do anything for me. I think most oysters come from male calves that are casterated at branding time.

As soon as I saw this question, I said 'TESTCILES' very loudly. It got some funny looks off my sister, let me tell you.

Probably wondering what you were talking about, if you pronounced it that way.....

Who doesn't love a testcile? Not quite as good as testcicles, but there you go. Hell, testicles are better than both. But anyway.
