    What causes crop circles?

    Question #55637. Asked by elizabethmc.

A couple of English eccentrics called Doug Bower and David Chorley, and a number of imitators.

You need planks for some types, too... Beats me why aliens would be able to fly all that way and bypass our air control and military radar, and still have to land in corn fields leaving such obvious traces.... And if they are messages, where's the key to cracking the code?

Searching the web, the BBC reports that farmers think they are pranks and cost them $$$$ every year because of the damage.

There are films of them apparently forming spontaneously, with both the presence of balls of flying light, followed by black helicopters after the circles were formed.
I have spoken to at least two people involved, including the wife of a person working on the film, and both believe it's purely man made, but from airborne sources testing beam weapons, creating a pattern on a screen and then transmitting it into the crops. Now if they thought they'd get caught, they clearly would have stopped, as at present it's pretty low on the known theories and pretty hard to catch in the act.
Also, non-hoaxed circles show boiling sap and radiation not present in copies. Finally certain patterns can only be seen clearly from the air, and making these on the ground would be almost impossible to keep the angles accurate for the aerial view. Still a lot of unanswered points in my opinion.

I'm always dubious about things involving men in black, and black helicopters come into the same category. It's not easy to hide a black helicopter - or any other colour either - and people do tend to look at low flying helicopters, if only to see what the police or air ambulance are up to......

Black helicopters? Slippery slope, there. Once you start to accept those conspiracy theories, you're pretty much obliged to go and live in an armed camp in Montana.

If it happens in the middle of the night, how many people climb out of bed to see what the police of air ambulance are up to?

TabbyTom I am nearly sure that the 2 gentlemen you refer to are Australian , but as for what causes the circles well there are many suggestions but for me number one on the list would have to be bored , inebriated ne'er do wells !
