1969 -- Jerry West, Los Angeles
Averaged 30.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 18 playoff games as the Lakers lost to the Boston Celtics, 4-3. West has been the only NBA Finals MVP to play for a losing team.

The MVP Award started in the season of 1955-56. The winner was Bob Pettit of the St. Louis Hawks. He also won the MVP Award in 1958-59. The Hawks didn't win the NBA Finals that year.
