Hall Brothers ventured into specialty retailing in 1913 with a single showcase of greeting cards and opened its first retail store in 1916 in downtown Kansas City, Mo. By 1950, the operation had expanded into other lines of merchandise and became Halls department store. Halls Merchandising now operates two specialty stores in Kansas City – one on the Country Club Plaza and the other at Crown Center – featuring fine men's and women's clothing, china, crystal, and decorative home accessories, as well as Hallmark products and a corporate gift service.
