I don't think you can actually call them Charity Days in the US. Most charities plan their events on Sunday or Monday if it's a holiday weekend. There are Walks for Cancer, Walks for the March of Dimes (birth defects), different events for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation which holds it's fundraiser on Labor Day in September, etc.
Am I even close to what you were asking?

The United States Postal Service has a food drive every year.

Well, in the UK, everyone always spends the day raising money, and then in the evening there are celebrity specials of popular tv shows, and they're always trying to get you to ring in and donate money. This year, for example, there has been for the past two weeks a celebrity fame academy where celebs have to sing a song and face the public vote, and each night someone goes out, until there are 3 left on the last night when the winner is decided. The money from the phone votes goes to charity, and so does money from red noses and other merchendise sold. Do you have anything like that?
