This river has many names. The most popular one is said to have been given by a Spanish soldier after reporting battles of tribes among female warriors. It passes through different countries of which natives call it certain names depending on which part they are referring to. Which river is this and what are three alternate titles for it?

Well I guess it is that one that contains one-fifth of the world's river water.

After Paranaguazu, Guyerma and the one beginning with S that I have forgotten, it is hard to find these "and others" of which Wiki speaks.
The reports of female tribes were probably due to the males of the native tribes being more hairless than the Europeans were used to.

Those are just section names so I suppose I should have given past European names like Rio Grande, Vicente da Pinzon, Rio Maranon, Mar Dulce.
I'm sure I've mentioned before but I will again, that the outflow of this river is so powerful that freshwater pushes the seawater over 100 miles from the river's mouth. There are 17 tributaries longer than the Thames.
Looking at the article, I now know that it's source wasn't confirmed until 2001 and also that it contains an island the size of Denmark. The Nile may be longer but is puny in comparison with this monster whose basin covers most of the South Afican continent.

Yes......Being my polite self, I won't pull you up on that faux pas.
The Spanish guy likened these female warriors to the Amazons of Greek Mythology. Although the name Amazon is conventionally employed for the entire River these days, in Peruvian andBrazillian nomenclature it's only applied to sections of it as gmack has said. In Peru, the upper main stream down to Iquitos is called Maranon (Portuguese: Maranhao), and from there down to the Atlantic is called Amazonas. In Brazil the name Solimoes is used from Iquitos to the mouth of the Negro River and the Amazonas only from the Negro to the sea.
