As well as the usual sounds, my cat also communicates with a sound between a door creaking and a purr, just like she's talking to me. I've heard other cats do it, but don't know if there's a word for it, as it's a totally different sound and should have a name. Any ideas?

I always referred to it as 'skrooking'.

Mrrrraaah. We had one cat who did the same often. We said he was sputtering or stuttering. :D He liked to talk to people, and was more friendly than the dog.

No idea of a name for it, but heard a lot of it. One cat of my mother's used to comment on the television (sat on the chair arm, stared at the screen, then turned to her to comment, then back to the screen). Mind you some of ours used English at times. One came in soaking, and was asked what the weather was like. He shook himself and very clearly said 'Wet, wet, wet!'

I think I know the sound you mean. I used to have a cat that made that sort of sound if I stroked her while she was snoozing. I used to call it a "murp."

My cat frequently told me "now"--not "meow" but "Now!" And only when it applied to him getting something...

He had a very loud purr and would sometimes talk through it, mrrrrrah mrrrow, rrrrah.
