    In basketball, if a player fully crosses the half-court line and takes one foot back behind it holding his pivet foot, is it a backcourt violation?

    		not if he doesn't have the basketball.

    		Only if the ball goes past the line.

    		Backcourt violation is only if the basketball doesn't pass the half-court line in ten seconds I think. The ball goes to the other team then. But only if the team with possession fails to get the ball over the line. Nobody literally has to cross the line once in a game of basketball.
