In the movie "A Time to Kill" what happened to the guy in the end? I know he was found not guilty, but how?

Question #56203. Asked by doctordolittle. (Mar 26 05 7:13 PM)

In the movie, Carl Lee Hailey was found not guilty because the jury could finally relate to the crime with the closing argument given by his attorney, played by Matthew McConaughey. Carl Lee did what any father would have done had it been their daughter, regardless of race. Although they didn't say it, I guess he got off by reason of temporary insanity.
