I don't know about the "middle of nowhere", but in the army I served at what I would certainly call "the end of the world" - about a 15-minute ride outside Ashdod, in a military gas station that had no business being there. We were not allowed to walk or hitch rides there, the nearest public transportation was two miles away. And the only way in or out was with a bus from the 1960s that only came by once a day.

Well, I suppose if you were trying to get anywhere significant, Ürumqi would be a difficult place to do it from. In the far west of China, it is surrounded by mountains and unusable plains. The nearest aiprort is about 600 miles away in Novosibirsk, and it's well over 1000 miles away from the sea in which ever direction you go.

I live in three places, so to speak. My phone number uses one city's prefix, I live in another city's school district, and my address uses yet another city's name and zip code. Maybe that would be the "center of everywhere" instead of the "middle of nowhere," I don't know!

There is a Nowhere, Arizona. I'm sure it will have a middle.
