Which republic has the name of a rebel (or liberator depending which side you were on!) in its official name (but, of course, most people don't use that form of the name)?

Bolivia after Simon Bolivar?

Nice try - but not nearly so obvious.... This is the official name (in English, that is) I'm after, not what everyone and his dog calls the place.

Now, the only ones I can think of are:
Laos - the Lao were a rebel group
Jordan - I don't know what Hashemite means
Greece - Hellenic, where I work, but I don't know its origins.
Libya - Jamahiriya, anyone?
Venezuela - Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
My money is on either Laos or Venezuela.

Jamahirya means republic (basically), Jordan is a kingdom so doesn't come into it anyway, Laos is what we call it - but a YaY for Flynn for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Flem-ish got the right person, but the wrong republic. Incidentally, Venezuela used to be Los Estados Unidos de Venezuela - The United States of Venezuela...

Just in response to Laos. We call it Lao, but their official name is 'Lao People's Democratic Republic'. So... it's basically the country that belongs to the rebels.
And regarding the YaY. Yay!
