    Are all the planets named after gods?

    Simple answer. Yes, except for earth.
    Mercury - Roman messenger God.
    Venus - Roman Goddess of love.
    Mars - Roman God or war.
    Jupiter - Roman high God.
    Saturn - Roman God of the harvest.
    Uranus - Greek Goddess of the stars.
    Neptune - Roman God of the sea.
    Pluto - Roman God of the underworld.
    Sedna - Inuit Goddess of water.

    Earth does have another name, but I forget what it is.

    Isn't it Gaia? She was known as mother earth.

    It's also been called Terra a few places, but that might just be in fiction. Gaia and Terra were used for different planets in one story.

    The Earth Goddess in Norse mythology is Jord, mother of Thor and daughter of Annar.

    Many years ago someone told me that Texas is the only state that has a town named after each of the eight planets, excluding Earth. I have only found two in Texas, Jupiter and Mars. Maybe one of the nice people that come here can put this to rest once and for all. Are there eight towns in Texas named after the planets?
