What is the reason for those annoying front pages on websites that take an age to load and then you still have to click something to enter the real site? Looks to me like a lot of time and effort making them for nothing.

They have too many elements that have to be loaded, and because it's the "front page" they want to put up a good front. If their home page were boring, people wouldn't be as interested. I've seen some websites...I'd rather read the dictionary because it sounds more interesting.
