I have seen the word 'maven' used once or twice in relation to a spouse. Does that mean there's something wrong with him?

A maven can be a person who has special knowledge or experience; an expert.
It derives from the Yiddish meyvn, from Hebrew mbîn, active participle of hbîn, to understand derived stem of bîn, to discern.
It also means someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field an ace, adept, champion, sensation, mavin, virtuoso, genius, hotshot, star, superstar, whiz, whizz, wizard, wiz.
In other words, a right old smartypants.
