I have seen the word 'maven' used once or twice in relation to a spouse. Does that mean there's something wrong with him?

I've seen the word Vegan used lately and thought it was simply short for vegitarian. Now I suspect it means something more by the way it's used, and is usually capitalized. What does it really mean? What does 'No lo dude' mean? I saw this on the back of a toilet door sign once and have been curious ever since. I have once heard that a noise was recorded in an American forest that matched no animal or human sound but was definately something living, does anyone know any more about this?
