Which word can mean a wilfully disobedient horse or something that some horses are made to wear?

The term ornery often refers to a mean-spirited, disagreeable, and cantankerous horse and can also be a saddle, as shown here.

A yay for finding something totally different to my answer that answers the question. Can anyone find the five letter word I had in mind?

Actually, I was a bit generous there, Peasy. Ornery refers to anyone or thing that is cussed and awkward.
This is specifically a British term for a horse that is being contrary. As for the garment, I have never seen a horse wearing one but have heard that they do.

I used to use a hackamore, a bitless bridle, on difficult horses who wouldn't take a bit, but I've never heard this term actually applied to a horse. I've Googled everything I can think of and haven't come up an answer. "Blinder" can't be right, because a "blinder" is a fast and great race.

    Help!

It isn't a part of a horse's tack and there was a dispute about them in Killarney recently if that helps?

Could you possibly be talking about gelding?

Wait, that doesn't make sense. You said, "made to wear," and a horse already gelded isn't willfully disobedient. Back to Google. Killarney, eh?

The answer to this one was "nappy". A nappy or nappy horse is one that refuses to turn in the direction its owner wants it to go.
A nappy is also a British word for a diaper, which some horses are made to wear for environmental reasons.

Nappy as diaper I knew. But horse? I am extremely grateful for this information. I can now sleep soundly.
