Can anyone describe the fruiting habits of the female Maidenhair Tree (Ginkgo Biloba)?

    Question #56649. Asked by Flynn_17. (Apr 13 05 4:18 PM)

All I know is that they don't bear fruit for at least 20 years, and since it's hard to know whether you've got a male or a female, you are supposed to plant the tree out of the way -- that is, where people will not have to smell the fruit in the event that your tree is a girl.

If it's the only gingko around, you won't have to worry about that anyway...

So what do the fruit look like? Smell like?

Ever smelled fertilizer containing a high percentage of manure? That's what they smell like, along about September and October. As for what they look like, they tend to resemble male testicles out of the bag, so to speak. Ironically enough.

And I was trying to convince McGruff that I am really a very meek, mild, and inoffensive person.

You have seen male testicles 'out of their bag'?

No wonder we never hear from the Maven himself...

The Maven's bag is in entirely intact condition. I just have an excellent imagination.

Oh, hell. I've done it now.

What? You had to go check?

Not at all. In fact, the Maven is sniggering as we write. However, I've learned that McGruff hates personal references. I'll get back to this after dinner.
