Who is the Prefect of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith and how is this title popularly known?

Question #56764. Asked by gmackematix. (Apr 19 05 5:20 PM)

Well, Ratzinger was, and this used to be known simply as "The Propaganda Fide" -- for "propagation of the faith." It was a missionary organization, but it also had connections with the Inquisition, which was never very virulent outside of Spain. Borromini designed a famous building for the PF in the 17th century.

You mentioned the Inquisition so a sort of yay as I was thinking of the nickname for the title, Grand Inquisitor of Rome.
As for the first part, I don't know but I guess there's no white smoke for that one.

Now I do know. The latest Grand Inquisitor is Archbishop William Lavada of San Francisco, appointed last Friday.
