Balance and vestibular tests are used to measure the inner ear balance function and its connection in the brain stem and cerebellum. Vestibular tests are those which measure the function of the inner ear balance apparatus and its connection in the brainstem and cerebellum. These tests include:
Posturography - Provides a quantitative measure of balance to assess the different aspects of balance function to see which is disordered.
Audiometry and electrocochleography- Tests hearing function.
Tilt table testing- Detects drops in blood pressure that may cause fainting or near-fainting episodes.
Holter monitor - Used to detect abnormalities in heart rhythms which might cause intermittent dizziness.
CT and MRI scan of the brain - Provides images of the brain to evaluate for bleeding, stroke, tumor, aneurysm, hydrocephalus, abscess and other abnormalities.
Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) - Records the blood flow within arteries of the head and neck to assess for narrowing of the arteries.
Cerebral Angiography - Provides detailed images of the blood vessels to assess for vascular narrowing, aneurysm, or other vascular lesions.
or ENG (electronystagmography)
