When was the Red Cross first established?

1864 saw the first Geneva Convention draw up the basis of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The first Nobel Peace Prize winner, Henry Dunant was the man behind it and there was some controversy about which prize, if any, he should receive.
Of course, the Convention and Dunant were Swiss and the red cross itself is just the inverse of the Swiss flag.
