They were supposedly named after a Frankish abbot, and they seemed to be a big hit at the Globe Theatre. What do they have to do with a very old Chinese document?

Filberts or hazelnuts, peasy. My beloved "nocciola." Supposedly named after St. Philibert and mentioned as sacred in a Chinese manuscript of 2838 B.C.E.

    Yum!

Very old hazelnut shells (400 years old or so) have been found on the site of the Globe.

Ok, well done, yes, the audiences shoved the hazelnuts down not unlike moviegoers today with their popcorn. The Shakespeare connection was "The Taming of the Shrew" which has a suitor refer to his love: "Kate, like the hazel twig is straight and slender and brown in hue as hazelnuts and sweeter than the kernels." A bit obscure yes, I know.

    Golden banana on its way...
