A 40-degree fever can be highly dangerous and contageous, depending on its cause. If your kid has such a temperature, keep him/her at home.

Mine was 103F recently and I didn't feel too bright.

That temperature can cause convulsions in kids, and I speak from experience. My eldest daughter at 6 months contracted meningitis. She convulsed for quite a few hours in an oxygen tent packed in ice until she was given cortisone. She is a happy mother of three sons today!

I had dreadful hallucinations and felt the earth was falling away from me. Very frightening. No lasting effects though.
