I just watched the Preakness, as I suspect you did, too, McGruff. According to the coverage, if I'm remembering the commentary, the Tiffany-made Preakness trophy is worth over $1,000,000. The winners get silver replicas.

Yep, great race, wasn't it? The Woodlawn Vase is what I was going for, but didn't they say it was worth $3,000,000? I was looking online, but only find an assessment from 1983 for one million.

I'm just going by what I thought I heard Bob Costas say, which could be wrong.
Yes, it was a fascinating race, given the near-disaster. For a few seconds there, I thought it was all over for Afleet Alex. That horse and his jockey turned in a brilliant performance.

Probably the 1861 Silver Clipper Ball which was the "FIRST" trophy ever awarded for winning a baseball match would be the most valuable trophy in sports. The "Silver Ball" was awarded the the All-Star Brooklyn club for defeating the New York All-Stars at Elysian Fields in Hoboken New Jersey. It is not known if the trophy is still in existence.
